South African Ocean Festival returns to V&A Waterfront

The South African Ocean Festival will take place from the 21st October to the 8th November 2015, at the V&A Waterfront, Cape Town. A shared concept from V&A Waterfront, SAMSA and Worldsport, the South African Ocean Festival celebrates the beauty and power of the ocean, through various ocean sports, art, music and food.

The Ocean Festival is hosted annually in the Western Cape, showcasing the unique flavour that the Mother City has to offer. The Clipper Race Stopover, will take place during the South African Ocean Festival, the festival will offer loads of fun including music, delicious food, kids activities and ocean related content.

The festival promises great entertainment with a performance from Beatenburg, to delicious food and various action packed water sports. Watch an exciting demonstration of a new sport – the Jetovator, to fully dressed and flag catching Dragon boat racing or watch an example of what the NSRI do during a rescue.

Capetonians can take part in a variety of fun activities, from the open water team relay, on a set course over a set distance, to the canoe – polo mini demonstration and the Xtreme Water Polo tournament. Don’t miss out and share in our city’s ocean and water sport celebrations.

According to SAMSA the main goal of the festival is not only to boost the tourism potential of South Africa’s marine assets, but to create business and job opportunities. Ms Nhlumayo, SAMSA Centre of Maritime Excellence’s executive head, said that the ocean provides a perfect platform to achieve the above-mentioned objectives.

“The Ocean Festival‘s vision is to celebrate the ocean through ocean sports, art, music, food and education while promoting a destination and creating opportunities for small businesses.” adds Ms Sindiswa Nhlumayo, SAMSA Centre of Maritime Excellence’s executive head.
