Many thousands lined the streets of Green and Sea Point on Saturday evening to watch some 3000 dancers samba their way from De Waterkant to the outskirts of the 2010 World Cup Stadium.

Eleven extraordinary carnival-style floats, wonderfully sophisticated and animated, was a strong feature of the process which got under way just after 8pm. The carnival was designed to create a wonderful mixture of styles and genres, which reflect the diverse cultural heritage of the City of Cape Town.
The internationally-famous Brazilian dancers Marcella Alves and Raphael Rodrigues took part in the parade on Saturday.
The duo were Alves and Rodrigues were the winners of the 2011 Flag Bearing Couple Competition in the world famous Rio Carnival last year.
