New exec chef for Radisson Blu Le Vendome Hotel

The newly-opened Radisson Blu Le Vendome Hotel on Sea Point’s Platinum Mile is proud to announce the appointment of Craig Carmichael as executive chef. Craig brings over 20 years’ experience in the food industry to the table, significantly enhancing the hotel’s sophisticated and dynamic service repertoire.

Charged with maintaining Radisson Blu’s tradition of fine cuisine, Carmichael has designed a menu for the La Mer Restaurant & Grill guaranteed to deliver authentic South African flavours with international influences, while Cpoint. Bar & Lounge has been re-imagined as a place for connoisseurs to savour fine spirits and cocktails in a relaxed, stylish environment.

“My goal is to position the La Mer and Cpoint. as popular destinations in the community; they’re not just for guests to enjoy. I want to keep the restaurants accessible without compromising on quality,” says Carmichael, who was born and raised in Cape Town.

Like the hotel itself, the menu includes classics with contemporary highlights – from grilled beef fillet with fondant potato, butternut squash, oxtail ravioli and wild mushrooms to honey and lavender roasted duck breast with fondant potato, bok choi and braised baby onions (not to mention exquisite and diverse starters and desserts) – ensuring the most refined taste is catered for.

Steeped in the culinary arts from a young age, Carmichael began cooking for Protea Hotels in the school holidays when he was just 16. Honing his skills at the Wijnland Restaurant as chef de partie and at the Morgenhof Wine Estate, Craig then worked as executive chef at top hotels in Cape Town before being appointed group executive chef for the Three Cities group in 2006.

And now his innovative approach to food and service is sure to give Radisson Blu Le Vendome Hotel even more of a culinary wow factor, ensuring guests enjoy a unique and memorable dining experience.

Evoking a classic, old-world feel with chic, ultra-modern touches, the Radisson Blu Le Vendome Hotel is the newest boutique-style gem in Cape Town’s fast-growing hospitality sector. Recently refurbished at a cost of R30 million, luxurious upgrades are designed to enrich every guest’s experience.

The hotel occupies a prominent place on the cosmopolitan Atlantic Seaboard, with captivating views of the city’s celebrated natural landmarks, such as Table Mountain and Signal Hill. The Sea Point Promenade is but a few steps away while a world of shopping and entertainment waits nearby in the city centre and at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront.
