Chef Hajiera Hamit makes Strolla her new home

“Food should be a source of joy. It shouldn’t be complicated but effortless, comforting and tasty,” says Strolla executive chef Hajiera Hamit on the special ingredient that makes the Sea Point promenade restaurant’s simple-yet-sophisticated cuisine stand out from the culinary crowd.

Coming from a traditional Cape Malay family, Hajiera’s passion for the culinary industry developed at a young age and, with her warm personality and contemporary, feel-good food choices on the menu, has embraced her new home on the Platinum Mile at Strolla restaurant and bar.

“We are very fortunate to have the services of such a talented homegrown chef. Hajierah is well-known in the hospitality industry, having spent the past decade working in some of the most illustrious establishments in the country. She is completely committed to establishing Strolla into a destination restaurant known for its consistent food quality and great, yet unpretentious meals,” says owner and restaurateur Brendon Crew.

Bringing more than 16 years of experience to the table, Hajierah’s food journey began with an apprenticeship through the International Hotel School at the Cape Milner Hotel followed by time in the kitchen under Jamie Watt at Hippo Hollow Mpumalanga and Peter Anderson at Lagoon Beach, refining her craft.

From here she moved to a position of Executive Chef at Kichaka Game Lodge where she was featured in the show Cooked in Africa with bush-cook Justin Bonello.
