The City of Cape Town have announced their public transport plan for Red Hot Chili Peppers Concert at the Cape Town Stadium.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers will perform at the Cape Town Stadium on Tuesday 5 February 2013. The City of Cape Town has put an extensive public transport plan in place to assist concert-goers in getting to and from the event.
The gates will open at 17:00 on the day, with the supporting act starting at 19:45 and the main performance scheduled from 21:00 to 23:00.
“The City estimates that 45 000 people will attend the concert, so our best advice to concert-goers is to arrive early, make use of public transport if possible and avoid peak hour traffic,” said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Tourism, Events and Marketing, Councillor Grant Pascoe.
The following arrangements have been made:
No parking will be available at or near the Stadium. Concert ticket-holders are encouraged to:
Use public transport to the MyCiTi Civic Centre bus station and catch the free event shuttle to the Stadium; or
Park in the City Bowl and use the free event shuttle to the Stadium; or
Park at the V&A Waterfront and walk to the Stadium
No additional bus and train services have been scheduled before the concert and normal tariffs will apply. Limited special Metrorail and MyCiTi services will be available after the concert.
Metrorail service
Metrorail services to and from Cape Town will run as normal before the concert and passengers will be required to pay the applicable fee. Train schedules and related information are available from the Transport Information Centre’s toll-free number 0800 65 64 63 or at www.capemetrorail.co.za
Limited special train services will be available after the concert and will be free on presentation of a valid concert ticket stub. Trains will depart promptly after the concert at the following times:
from Cape Town to Fish Hoek at 23:45 and 00:00
from Cape Town to Bellville (via Monte Vista) at 23:45 and 00:00
from Cape Town to Strand (via Goodwood) – at 00:00
MyCiTi service
The standard hours of operation and fares will apply for the Civic Centre/Table View, Waterfront and Gardens routes for concert-goers travelling to the Civic Centre station before the concert.
Passengers will be required to use the myconnect card (loaded with sufficient value) to travel. Cards can be purchased at any open station kiosk at selected MyCiTi stations, or participating retailers. Between the Stadium and the Civic Centre travel is free to concert ticket holders. All other services must be paid for with a myconnect card.
Stadium Shuttle
The first bus will depart the Civic Centre Station at 17:00 and run until 21:00.
A skeleton service will run every 15 minutes during the event from 21:00 to 23:00.
The return shuttle runs again from 23:00 and last bus departs Stadium at 00:15.
Hout Bay Service
The first bus departs Kronendal at 17:00 and last bus at 19:30.
The first return bus departs from York Road at 23:15 and last bus departs at 00:15.
There will be no service between 19:30 and 23:15.
UCT Service
The first bus departs UCT at 17:00 and last bus at 19:30.
The first return bus departs the Civic Centre station from the pavement at 23:30 and last bus departs at 00:30.
There will be no service between 19:30 and 23:30.
Table View
All transport to the event will be on the normal scheduled service and must be paid for with a myconnect card.
After the event the first bus will depart the Civic Centre station at 23:30 and last bus departs at 00:30. Buses will travel at 30 minute intervals.
The bus will only stop as a matter of course at Lagoon Beach, Woodbridge, Milnerton, Racecourse, Sunset Beach and Table View stations. If a passenger needs to disembark at any other station they need to alert the driver by pressing the button in the bus as they approach their stop.
Table View Feeder services will be in operation from 00:30 with the last feeder bus departing the Table View station at 01:00.
These services are provided free of charge on presentation of a valid concert ticket stub.
Gardens
All transport to the event will be on the normal scheduled service and must be paid for with a myconnect card.
The first bus after the event departs the Civic Centre station at 23:30 and last bus departs at 00:30. Buses will travel at 30 minute intervals.

Coaches and buses
Private couches and buses may, on a first-come basis, use the limited coach parking on Helen Suzman Boulevard between Beach and Vlei Roads.
Park-and-Rides
Park-and-Ride facilities are situated at or near rail stations and a nominal fee may be applicable at some of these facilities. Please contact the Transport Information Centre on 0800 65 64 63 for more information.
Other Park-and-Rides can be found at dedicated locations served by event shuttles
Road closures
A number of roads in and around the Cape Town Stadium precinct will be closed on the day (either a full or a partial closure) and traffic law enforcement teams will be monitoring the flow of traffic. Public transport services operating in the Green Point and CBD areas may be subject to localised deviations from 14:00 on the day of the event.
Parking
Parking restrictions will be enforced in the residential areas adjacent to Cape Town Stadium from 00:00 on 5 February to 00:00 (midnight) on 6 February 2013, including on Main Road. Motorists are advised to obey the signage.
Normal restrictions and charges apply to kerbside parking in the CBD for a week day.
Parking at the V&A Waterfront
The V&A Waterfront has approximately 3 500 parking bays available to the general public.
There is a charge associated with this parking, and traffic flows into and out of the V&A Waterfront may be congested.
People with disabilities
Dedicated parking has been allocated on DF Malan Drive for those attendees with disabilities who wish to use the Stadium shuttle. Only people with an official disability permit from the City will be allowed to park in this dedicated parking area.
Ticket holders must formally request access to the parking bays dedicated to people with disabilities by sending an e-mail to Mike Lord at mike@alliancesafety.co.za
Concertgoers will have to provide evidence that they are entitled to these parking bays by clearly displaying the Vehicle Access Permit (VAP) in full colour on their dashboard when entering the parking area (P5) on Vlei Road. Failure to display will result in access being denied.

Parking for people with disabilities is issued at the discretion of the event organiser and is subject to availability.
Drop-and-Go
Attendees may be dropped off and collected at the following appropriately sign-posted locations. Parking tariffs will apply until 17:00 when on-street parking becomes free of charge.
in DF Malan Drive opposite the Artscape Theatre;
in the embayment off Helen Suzman Boulevard (city-bound carriageway), between Vlei Road and the elevated traffic circle at Granger Bay Boulevard;
on-street in the CBD (on-street parking is available within the CBD, but no additional security will be provided).
Pedestrian routes
Routes for pedestrians between the Stadium and City Centre (via Fan Walk)
Part of the road will be open to normal vehicular traffic
Pedestrians are urged to use the sidewalk and dedicated lane to the underpass at Green Point Circle
V & A Waterfront
This route is via Granger Bay Boulevard
Pedestrians are urged to avoid Portswood Road as the pedestrian walkways along that route are restricted
Cycling
Attendees wishing to cycle to the Stadium are encouraged to do so. Bicycle racks are located on the eastern (Waterfront) side of the elevated circle at the Stadium. Cyclists must provide their own lock and chain as bicycles are left at own risk.
Please remember to wear a helmet, have adequate lighting and wear reflective clothing. Helmets are not allowed inside the Stadium except lightweight cycling helmets. Due to the number of people using the fan walk, it is advised that cyclists coming from the CBD use the route through the V&A Waterfront or the back roads in De Waterkant to access the Stadium.
Ticket collection
Attendees are encouraged to collect their tickets from Computicket outlets before the day of the concert.
