Eco-friendly storage facility, GreenCube Self Storage, has just launched in Ottery in the Western Cape, and is set to paint the Cape green with its innovative approach to storage and the environment.
The facility, located on the corner of Plantation Road and Bamboesvlei next to Suburban Spares, provides easy access to residential customers in the Southern Suburbs, as well as the commercial districts it borders. With units ranging from 9-18m², there are sizes to suit all needs and with state of the art security, access control and lock up and go system goods are safely secured, and are easily accessible.
Amidst a growing self-storage industry in South Africa, the new facility, comprising of 303 self-storage units spread over of 5300m² of land, sets itself apart with its green approach to storage and the environment.
GreenCube Self Storage is the first commercial property in Africa to utilise eco-friendly infrastructure such as Insulted Concrete Formwork (ICF). This green insulated building technique offers the added benefit of even year-round temperatures to protect valued stored goods, thereby reducing the facilities carbon footprint.
The facility has joined forces with various green initiatives such as Abalimi-Harvest of Hope – an organisation dedicated to urban agriculture and environmental support in townships such as Khayelitsha and Nyanga. Abalimi assists individuals, groups and communities to initiate and maintain permanent organic food growing, which allow farmers to develop skills, feed themselves, their families and provide regular income. GreenCube will purchase a vegetable plant from Abalimi for each storage unit that is leased which will be given to the customer; ensuring customers feel good knowing that they, too, are giving back to the community
In addition to this, GreenCube has partnered with the vibrant tree-planting social enterprise Greenpop, to assist with their ongoing storage needs. Greenpop brings together communities and corporates to run urban greening and reforestation projects in South Africa and Zambia and have planted over 40 000 trees to date.
