Queen Mary 2, the length of three football fields

One of the world’s most luxurious ocean liners, the Queen Mary 2, docked at the Eastern Mole in the Port of Cape Town earlier this week.
The QM2, which is more than 345m long, has a guest capacity of 3 056 and carries 1 253 crew. Due to its length, the ship is not able to dock at the Waterfront.
The liner was greeted with a traditional Cape Town welcome as she sailed into the city.
The ship made its way around the breakwater past Robben Island and later tugs welcomed her with a water display.
Crowds gathered on the shoreline near the V&A Waterfront to catch a glimpse of the liner, while being entertained by a Malay choir.
A team from Kfm breakfast host Ryan O’Connor’s show, donning Speedos, boarded a tug renamed the “The Muscle Mary 2” to welcome the ship.
The Queen Mary II has 14 decks, 15 restaurants and bars, five swimming pools, a casino, a ballroom, a theatre, and the first planetarium at sea.
The ship uses four Rolls Royce 21.5mW electric propulsion pods and can reach 30 knots.
The Queen Mary II embarked on its maiden voyage in January 2004.
