MTN-Qhubeka gets Tour de France nod

Chairman of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation South Africa, Morné du Plessis, has extended his congratulations to Team MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung on their 2015 wild card invitation to compete in the Tour de France.

Morne du Plessis commented, “We are extremely proud of this milestone achievement by our aspirational group of Laureus ambassadors. As the first African-registered pro-cycling team to compete in the world’s premier cycling race, these role models are set to raise the profile of the sport in South Africa as well as the profile of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation both locally and abroad”.

Team MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung Team Principal, Douglas Ryder, continued, “This invitation to the Tour de France is such an incredible moment for me, the team and African cycling. It is the culmination of 10 years of believing in the talent from Africa and working towards exposing this talent at the highest level of world cycling”.

Team MTN-Qhubeka Samsung is currently at a training camp in Mallorca ahead of a very busy training schedule leading up to the Tour de France in July. Their season kicks off with the Challenge Mallorca, a series of four one-day races between 29 January and 01 February 2015. Laureus will be proudly following their journey every step of the way!
