LaLiga to stage Cape Town camp in Green Point in November

16 September 2021 – Following the success of the first LaLiga Camps held in South Africa, in partnership with the international youth football tournament IBERCUP, the next round of LaLiga Camps will now be held in Cape Town from 22-28 November 2021.

Over 160 aspirant young footballers, from under 10 to under 18, attended the Johannesburg LaLiga Camps at the St Stithians College in August, receiving expert coaching from LaLiga UEFA Pro Licence coaches Toni Alvarez and Luis Martinez and experienced local IBERCUP coaches.

After the resounding success of the first LaLiga Camps with IBERCUP, the Camps will now move to Greenpoint in Cape Town and give young girls and boys footballers from the Mother City the chance to experience world-class coaching of the highest standards.

In addition to the Players Camp at Green Point Stadium, there will also be a special Coaches Clinic held during the LaLiga Camps.

“We were very encouraged by the success of the first LaLiga Camps in South Africa, held jointly with our valued partners IBERCUP, in Johannesburg. And we are excited to now host these Camps in Cape Town in November, where we will once again bring top LaLiga coaches from Spain to share the methodology and training methods of Spanish football with young South African footballers. These Camps are important in sharing LaLiga’s knowledge and expertise for the benefit and development of South African football. They are also important in sharing the sport’s intrinsic values that will lead them to become better footballers and better people as well,” said Marcos Pelegrin, Managing Director of LaLiga Southern Africa.

“The partnership between LaLiga and IBERCUP has been a resounding success and proves that there are football opportunities to provide inclusion for participation in international football and talent identification programs for South African players, even in these difficult times. Since concluding the Johannesburg camps we have been inundated with requests from all corners of South Africa to extend the camp’s footprint and we are considering expanding the project to further regions over the next few years. With the expertise in football knowledge of LaLiga and the IBERCUP network, we are on the path to change the fortunes and face of youth football in South Africa and I can’t wait to see the talent in Cape Town” added Michael Bender, CEO IBERCUP.

An important objective of the Camps, with its special focus on developing youth football, is to give disadvantaged youth from all over South Africa – who would not ordinarily have access to the opportunity – the chance to be coached by top LaLiga and IBERCUP coaches.

Some of the brands that have supported the project to make this possible are Puma, Vuma, Tonino Lamborghini, Hollywoodbets My Community, National Brands and Bonaqua.
