Cape Town laying on several athletics events

The City of Cape Town’s Sport, Recreation and Amenities Department, in partnership with Western Province Athletics, will host a number of athletics events during the month of March in order to promote healthy lifestyles and active communities across Cape Town.

People of all ages and fitness levels will be able to participate in a range of athletics development fun runs. Events such as these promote sporting and recreational activities and holistic development across communities with a particular focus on active participation of the youth.For more information, please visit www.wpa.org.za

“Sporting events like these promote healthy, active lifestyles and help participants to achieve their personal goals, as well as provide opportunities for engagement in community life. These fun runs are important in increasing the number of participants included in sport and recreation activities. They provide a chance for people of all ages and fitness levels to enjoy an energetic time outdoors,” said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Special Projects, Alderman Belinda Walker.

The City’s partnership with Western Province Athletics will also see a range of athletics development programmes in communities across the city throughout the rest of the year. Events will include the Don Lock Challenge; the Stragglers Race; the Landmarks Race; the RCS Gugulethu Road Race; the Topform Road Race; and the Strand Vineyard Road Race.
