Cape Town a hit with world tourists

Cape Town was listed as one of CNN’s “World’s 10 most loved cities” on Thursday, coming in at number nine alongside cities such as Barcelona and New York.

According to CNNgo, CNN’s travel website, Cape Town was chosen because of  its “sweet harbour, nice architecture, weather, lovely waterfront shopping and the wonder of wonders, Table Mountain”.

Western Cape Tourism MEC Alan Winde welcomed the award.

“We are absolutely delighted that Cape Town has been chosen.

“It’s particularly encouraging that we have been listed on CNN because it further increases our exposure to international markets,” said Wilde.

Tourism contributes over 10% to the region’s GDP.

“In the past year, we had a 14% increase in international tourism arrivals at Cape International Airport and we intend to raise the figure,” Wilde said.
