Blooming good show by Kirstenbosch conquers Chelsea

The City of Cape Town has congratulated the South African National Biodiversity Institute’s Kirstenbosch exhibition for once again winning a gold medal at the 2012 Royal Horticultural Society Chelsea Flower Show in London.

The Kirstenbosch exhibition’s victory at this year’s Chelsea [more] Flower Show is its 32nd first-prize award in the history of the flower competition.

Kirstenbosch’s success in the Chelsea Flower Show over three decades shows that our natural jewels are celebrated beyond the borders of our city, province and country. This accolade will strengthen Kirstenbosch’s reputation as one of the most beautiful botanical gardens in the world and further boost Cape Town’s capacity to attract more tourists to the city.

the Executive Mayor of Cape Town, Alderman Patricia de Lille said in a statement:  “I would like to thank the staff at the Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden for doing an excellent job in preserving its impeccable natural beauty throughout the years.”
