All-Stars return for 2014 Celebrity Chef Series

Celebrity Chef Series 2014 is here and three of SA’s top chefs are back with new signature pizzas that tell their own unique stories.

Col’Cacchio pizzeria has been inviting South Africa’s top culinary talent to take part in the Celebrity Chef Series since the campaign kicked off in 2009. In 2014 they are turning back the clock and bringing back three of these all-star chefs, Mike Basset, Jodi-Ann Pearton and Rudi Liebenberg, to reinvent their take on gourmet pizza for a good cause.

Their challenge this year is to tell their individual stories of a life in food by creating a signature pizza with ingredients and flavour combinations that reflect their own #FoodWithaStory. Pizza fans are invited to dine at Col’Cacchio pizzeria from September-November to experience the delectable line up of signature pizza creations.

The September ‘super’ chef is Mike Basset, the award-winning owner and chef at Myoga at The Vineyard Hotel and Spa in Newlands. Inspired by his culinary travels, he’s created a mouthwatering flavour fusion that takes its cues from the deep south of the United States and South America, The Redneck pizza – a seasoned tomato and cream cheese base, southern fried chicken, topped with homemade sweet chilli sauce, coriander, chimichurri and ruby slaw.

Since 2009 The Celebrity Chef Series has raised over R1 million for charitable causes through the R5 donation from the sale of each celebrity chef pizza. Funds raised this year will go to the Children’s Hospital Trust to benefit St Josephs for Chronically Ill Children, to fund an inpatient paediatric rehabilitation service to which many patients are referred from the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital.

Mike is the award-winning owner and chef at Myoga at The Vineyard Hotel and Spa in Newlands. A member of the Chaine des Rotisseurs, Chef Mike has received numerous accolades including a feature on the Eat Out Top 10 and Conde Naste Traveller Top 100 awards as well as a Chaine Blazon and NOMU nomination. His esteemed career has also seen him open several acclaimed eateries at leading local hotels including Victoria Junction and Villa Via. Mike has a passion for introducing his diners to exciting exotics such as Jerusalem artichokes, purple potatoes, chimichurri and even stinging nettles!
