The one moment he was attending a hooker's wedding, and the next he gets a call-up from England.
Fullback Nick Abendanon who plays for Bath in the Guinness Premiership, has had to cut his South African holiday short because of a call-up to the touring England squad.
Abendanon, who was born in Bryanston, near Johannesburg, was named as a ] replacement for England fullback Mike Brown who has been ruled out of the three-Test series against South Africa with a fractured thumb.
In 2007, when Abendanon made his England debut he joined a clutch of SA-born players who went on to play Test rugby for the Poms. Some of the players that spring to mind include Stuart Abbott, Brad Barritt, Mouritz Botha and Mike Catt.
Fortunately for England, Abendanon was at hand because he was in Johannesburg where he attended the weekend wedding of Bath team mate Pieter Dixon, the former Stormers hooker.
England play the Springboks in the second Test in Johannesburg on Saturday.
